Nicola Akele – Day 1 – Travel Day

It is finally the day that we are leaving for the Bahamas. After a lot of anticipation and preparation about the trip, the URI basketball finally leaves for the Bahamas!!!!!! YEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Well, we started the day by leaving at 530 am (yes AM) from the Ryan Center to go to the airport. Thank God, we flew from Providence so the ride was not that long, plus we had some Dunkin Donuts along the way to fulfill our stomach.

The experience at the airport was good, we didn’t have any complications and the flights to Charlotte and Nassau went smooth with no problems.

From the time, we were about to land to the Caribbean country we could already see the beautiful and clear water that surrounds the island. From that moment, we realize that everything we knew about the Bahamas was true, such as beautiful beaches and nice resorts.

The first “obstacle” between us the Bahamas was Customs (trust me that is annoying, especially going to the US for me). We had to complete forms before heading to the baggage claim and it takes us a while to get there, especially because nobody had pens!!!

Finally, we got out of the airport (was about that time) and we met our tour guide Taylor, a nice young lady, that brought us to the minivan heading to ATLANTIS!!!!!

The ride was not too long (about 30 minutes) and was enjoyable. We were laughing and admiring the beautiful view at the same time. I can say that Bahamas looks exactly how every website represents it but we realize that this is a country of populated by black people.

After remaining with our mouth open for every beach and resort in sight, we arrive at Atlantis. The place is a massive resort with a big light red building in the middle, absolutely beautiful. We went inside and we went to eat immediately. The lunch room was on the 19th floor (yes 19th floor) of the building. The food was alright but the view from the balcony was BEAUTIFULL!!!!! Best LIVE view I have ever seen.

After our stomachs were happily satisfied we headed to our rooms (which were really nice). We had some time before we would have met for dinner, so after a quick shower, we went to explore the Atlantis resort. The complex is beautiful with lots of things to do and the thing that attract me the most was the shark aquarium. I discover that you can go inside of the aquarium with the shark. Well, it would be really nice to do it but I hope I don’t come back in pieces lol.

We went around the beautiful resort and I couldn’t believe the gorgeousness of the place and the blessing that we have to be in a beautiful place like this.

Then it came time for dinner at the Virgil’s Barbecue where we had some good food and good atmosphere, with the happy birthday joke that we made for coach Hurley (it was not his birthday lol). The first day ended with some time free to walk around the Resorts and get some good local ice cream ( but nothing beats the Italian gelato)
